Gridiron Ultra RZ is a high performance self-adhered roofing membrane designed for protection against snow load, ice dams, and wind-driven rain on steep-slope roofing assemblies of 2:12 or greater.
High Temp Performance
Gridiron Ultra RZ is made with our Redzone high temp self-adhered butyl membrane, engineered to withstanding temperatures up to 270°F under various roofing systems, such as mechanically attached concrete or clay tile, metal, primed cedar shakes, and asphalt or composite shingles.
No Cleats Required
Gridiron Ultra RZ’s Redzone butyl adhesive membrane makes a strong and secure bond to plywood and OSB roof decks. On top, a thick and durable spunbonded polypropylene surface provides high-friction grip in all directions. No cleats required. This robust construction provides excellent traction while standing up to the rigours of the job site.

180 Days UV Protection
Engineered for jobsite flexibility, Gridiron Ultra RZ is rated for up to 180 days of UV exposure prior to degradation. For optimal system performance, installation of the primary roofing material is recommended within this exposure window.
Important Design Notice
Built for modern roof assemblies, Gridiron Ultra RZ functions as a non-permeable air, vapor, and water barrier. As a low-permeance underlayment, it must be installed above a properly ventilated space to manage moisture and condensation risk. In situations where a breathable roofing underlayment is required, please see our alternate product, Breathex Pro.

*180 day UV resistance is based on testing conducted under controlled laboratory conditions. Gridiron Ultra RZ should be covered by a primary roof covering as soon as possible and no more than 180 days after installation.
**Lifetime refers to the length of warranty coverage provided and means as long as the original individual owner(s) of a single-family detached residence owns the property where the qualifying product is installed. Butylful Adhesion
Temperature Performance: Butyl remains flexible and pliable across a much wider temperature range — from below freezing to 270 °F. SBS modified asphalt can become brittle in extreme cold and may soften or flow at high temps, especially on sloped roofs in hot climates.
Adhesion Longevity: Butyl maintains its bond strength over a longer service life and is highly resistant to UV degradation, oxidation, and heat aging. SBS asphalt-based products can dry out and become brittle over time, especially if exposed.
Self-Healing & Nail Sealability: Butyl adhesive is highly viscoelastic, meaning it flows back around fasteners and seals penetrations exceptionally well. This greatly reduces the risk of water infiltration at fastener points. SBS products can self-seal as well, but generally not as reliably and not without a significantly thicker coating.
Compatibility with Metal Rofing: Butyl is the preferred choice under metal roofing systems because it won't off-gas oils that can stain or react with certain metal coatings, and it handles the thermal movement of metal panels far better without delaminating.
